BARBARA ANNE GOSS,
youngest of three children born to Walter Mark and Rosa Mae (Raibourn)
Earl, was born November 9, 1935 at Lenora, OK. She departed
this life on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in Prosper, TX at the age of
74.
She
attended first grade at Lenora but due to her father’s work in the
oilfields in Oklahoma and Texas, she attended several schools
through the sixth grade and in 1946, the family moved to Taloga
where she completed sixth grade. Her parents purchased the
Blue Moon Café in Seiling in 1947 and she completed grades 7 through
12 at Seiling.
Barbara
married Scottie Leon Goss, son of Edward and Addie (Case) Goss, on
December 21, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Seiling.
After graduating from high school in May 1953, Barbara joined him at
Fort Hood, Texas where he was stationed while serving in the US
Army. Upon Scottie’s honorable discharge in February 1955,
they returned to Seiling where Scottie was engaged in a lifelong
career of farming and ranching.
Barbara
loved her husband and family whom she always put their needs and
wants ahead of her own. She is a member of the First Christian
Church in Seiling, and, even though she moved from Seiling in 1996
after Scottie’s passing to be closer to family, she would never
transfer her membership to any other church. She served two
terms as Mother Advisor to the Seiling Chapter of the Order of
Rainbow for girls.
Barbara
and Scottie have two children: Karla Anne Goss of Garland, TX and
Steven Scott Goss of Prosper, TX. Both are graduates of
Seiling High School and Oklahoma State University. Barbara
worked at the ASCS office in Taloga five years before embarking on a
nearly 23 year career in banking. She worked for Seiling’s
First National Bank, Community State Bank in Seiling, First State
Bank of Mooreland and Woodward, in addition to a loan production
officer for the Bank of Canton. Barbara was loved and
respected by her many loyal customers who appreciated her dedicated
service, including forcing husband Scottie to either bulldoze the
snow drifts or cut the fences so she would not be late for work.
Barbara also co-owned the Shamrock Care in Seiling with Cathy Ward.
She
loved attending and supporting the school activities of her kids.
The Seiling Alumni Reunion was a highlight for her even though she
was unable to attend her recent class reunion. Barbara moved
to Oklahoma City in 1996 to become a licensed insurance agent,
working with her son by running his Norman office until she retired
in 2003. She moved to Prosper, TX in 2005 to share the home of
her son and be close to her daughter. She witnessed and
survived the deadly May 3rd tornado in 1999,
among many other challenges of life, with class and grace. In
the western Oklahoma fighting spirit, Barbara fought several serious
illnesses the last years of her life until graciously and willingly
being called home by her Lord.
She
is survived by her two children; sister-in-law: Karen Goss Boothe
and husband Howard of Carthage, MO; brother-in-law: Jay Harris of
San Juan Capistrano, CA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband Scottie Goss, April 8, 1996; one sister: Betty
Fern Harris and one brother Walter Eugene “Gene” Earl.
The
funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010
at the First Christian Church in Seiling with Pastors Shane Sander
and Dennis Adair, officiating. Interment followed in the
Brumfield Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Brumfield
Cemetery, First Christian Church or the Seiling Fire Dept. with the
Redinger Funeral Home-PO Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663 serving as
custodian of the funds.
