DON GILCHRIST

DONALD
A. GILCHRIST, youngest of three children born to James Oscar and
Neva (Adair) Gilchrist, was born September 15, 1927 in the home of
his grandparents in Seiling, Oklahoma. He departed this life
early Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Seiling Nursing Center at the
age of 82 years.
Don
was raised and educated at Seiling and graduated from Seiling High
School with the class of 1945. He furthered his education at
the University of Oklahoma in Norman two and one half years.
He served in the United States Army for a brief time and was
honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Veta Yadon,
July 8, 1951 at the First Christian Church in Seiling. They
have made their home in the Seiling community where they raised
their only son, Gary Don. Don worked as a farmer, an oil land
man and was office manager for Bloomer Resources for many years.
He worked as an auctioneer in the area for forty years.
He
was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as an
elder, a deacon and Sunday school superintendent, served on the
church board, sang in the choir and taught junior hi Sunday school.
He was also active in the community where he served on the board of
the Seiling Housing Authority, Seiling Hospital Board and was the
parade marshal for the 2002 Seiling rodeo. Don was an avid
golfer and he enjoyed building and woodworking.
He
is survived by his wife, Veta Gilchrist of Seiling; one son and
daughter-in-law: Gary and Sharon Gilchrist of Seiling; two
grandchildren: Cary Gilchrist and wife Katie of Alva and Brandy
Hedges and husband Josh of Stillwater; two great grandchildren:
Hannah and Kara Gilchrist; one sister: Olive Lee Cook of Seiling and
he is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and
many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother Jack Gilchrist.
The
funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at the
First Christian Church with Pastors Dennis Adair and Orville White,
officiating. Interment followed in the Brumfield
Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to
the Brumfield Cemetery or the Woodward Hospice with the Redinger
Funeral Home-PO Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663, serving as custodian of
the funds.
