JOHN FRANK SMITH,
son of Owen Otto and Reva Bernadine (Louthan) Smith, was born
December 27, 1949 at Watonga, OK. He died of a sudden illness
on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Seiling Community Hospital.
He was 61 years of age.
John
was raised at Seiling where he attended Seiling School graduating
with the class of 1968. He attended Okmulgee Vo-Tech School
where he completed courses in auto body. He entered the United
States Army and was stationed in Germany. He received his
honorable discharge and returned to Oklahoma. He furthered his
education with a degree in political science from the University of
Central Oklahoma in Edmond. While attending college he worked
for Little Giant Pump Company ten years. He returned to
Seiling where he was employed by Gene Ward and later he worked for
Phillips Petroleum. He owned and operated the Kerr-McGee
service station in Seiling before going to work in 1994 for Dewey
County District 1 as a heavy equipment operator. Some of
John’s hobbies were gardening, he was an avid reader and he enjoyed
music of all types. He was well known for his book and music
collections.
He
was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Hedges July 31, 1981
at the First Christian Church in Seiling. They made their home
near Seiling where they raised their three children: Jessi, Emily
and Ben.
He
is survived by his wife Cindy Smith, two daughters, Jessi Bigler and
husband Michael of Warrensburg, MO and Emily Harrell and husband
Zachary of Cashion, one son, Ben Smith of Seiling; his mother,
Bernadine Smith of Seiling, three grandchildren, Elijah Joe and
Finley Jackson Harrell and Chloe Ann Bigler, one sister, Inez Sander
and husband Lindy of Seiling and one brother, Ray Smith and wife
Ruth of Taloga. He is also survived by many other relatives
and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, “Deacon”
Smith June 17, 1997.
The
funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2011 at the
Elm Grove Community Church with Pastors Orville White and Dennis
Adair, officiating. Interment with military honors followed
in the Brumfield Cemetery at Seiling. Memorials can
be sent to Brumfield Cemetery or to the Seiling Ambulance Service
with the Redinger Funeral Home-Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663 serving as
custodian of the funds.
