MAE ELLEN ROPER
MAE ELLEN ROPER,
daughter of Charles Henry and Kathyrine Ann (Beaver) Stringer, was
born May 17, 1921 near Oakwood, Oklahoma in Dewey County. She
departed this life on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Seiling
Municipal Hospital at the age of 88 years.
Mae
Ellen was raised and educated at Oakwood where she attended the
Oakwood School. She was united in marriage to Ray Alexander
Roper, April 5, 1938 at Watonga. They made their home at
Oakwood where they raised their seven children: Billy Ray, Lou Ann,
Elsie Mae, Charles Eugene, Everett Leroy, Dianna June and Mary Sue.
She worked as a homemaker for her family and she also cleaned houses
for others in the community. Mae Ellen and her sister
Elizabeth hung wallpaper together for many years.
She enjoyed
quilting, word search puzzles and putting jigsaw puzzles together.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1964 and she continued raising
her large family alone. She was a faithful member of the
Oakwood Assembly of God Church.
She
is survived by two sons: Bill Roper and wife Leota of Watonga,
Everett Roper and wife Lydia of Seiling; four daughters: Lou Ann
Peterman and husband Wesley of Laverne, Elsie Mae Peterman and
husband Leslie of Kingfisher, Dianna Anderson and husband Jerry of
Nicoma Park and Mary Sue Dale and husband Billy of Oakwood.
She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, thirty two great
grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; one sister: Lahoma
Barnett of Wilson, as well as, several nieces,
nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded by her parents, one son:
Charles Eugene in 1951, two sisters and two brothers.
The
funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31,
2009 at the Oakwood Auditorium with Wesley Warren, former pastor of
the Oakwood Assembly of God Church, officiating. Interment
will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery northwest of Oakwood.
Memorials can be made to the Seiling Nursing Center with the
Redinger Funeral Home-Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663 serving as custodian
of the funds.
