MARK NELSON

MARK RICHARD
NELSON, son of Mark Francis and Elizabeth (Mueller) Nelson, was born
April 24, 1946 at Milwaukee, WI. He departed this life on
Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City
at the age of 63 years.
He
was raised and educated in Milwaukee where he graduated from Don
Bosco High School with the class of 1964. He furthered his
education at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee two years.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968. He was
united in marriage to Sharon Hajny, December 20, 1969 at the First
Christian Church in Oakwood. They made their first home in
Michigan where Mark was stationed. Later, he went to Vietnam
and Sharon returned to Oklahoma. He worked as a heavy
equipment and airplane mechanic. He was honorably discharged
in 1974 and they have made their home in Oklahoma since where they
raised their three children. Mark began working in the oil
fields as a driller. Later, he went to work for the NAPA Auto
Parts store in Watonga as the parts manager. He liked to fish,
hunt and go flint picking. He also enjoyed watching sports,
especially football and baseball.
He
is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Nelson of Oakwood; two sons:
Mark Nelson and wife Kristi of Yukon and Wendell Nelson of Oakwood;
one daughter: Melissa Morgan and husband Jason of Guthrie; four
grandchildren: Mark Ryan Roland Nelson, Kaleb Patrick Nelson, Liam
Jay Morgan and Olivia Sharon-Kaye Morgan; one brother: Stephen
Nelson and wife Barbara of Olive Branch, MS; two sisters: Mary
Batterman and husband David and Catherine Swartz and husband
Christopher both of Milwaukee, WI; one sister-in-law: Christine
Nelson of Los Alamos, NM and he is also survived by several nieces,
nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in
death by his parents and one brother John Nelson in 1986.
The
funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10,
2009 at the Oakwood Auditorium with Pastor Clyde Irving,
officiating. Interment with military honors followed in the
Evergreen Cemetery near Oakwood. Memorials can be made to
Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Lung Cancer research with
the Redinger Funeral Home-PO Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663, serving as
custodian of the funds.
