MARLYN WHITACRE
MARLYN
W. WHITACRE, youngest of four children born to Charley Ray and
Florence Katherine Marie (Bromlow) Garman, was born February 19,
1954 at Thomas, OK. She departed this life early Monday, May
23, 2011 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 57
years.
Marlyn
began her school years at Putnam where she attended through 7th
grade then transferred to Taloga where she graduated high school
with the class of 1972. She was united in marriage to Lanny
Gene Whitacre, November 21, 1971 at Clinton, OK. They have
made their home in the Putnam area since where they raised their
only son, Lanny Thomas. Marlyn worked at Kellwoods in Clinton
where she operated several different machines making bedspreads and
comforters. She worked at the Putnam Café from 1974 to 1978. Later
she began working for the United States Postal Service as a relief
clerk and she worked for several post offices in the area.
Marlyn enjoyed quilting and she was a member of several quilt guilds
including Seiling, Clinton and Putnam. She was an active
member of the Putnam Fire Department. She was raised in the
Pentecostal Church of God in Putnam where she was active until it
closed. She was a devoted mother, wife and sister and she enjoyed
family get-togethers.
She
is survived by her husband, Lanny Whitacre and her son, Thomas
Whitacre both of Putnam; one brother: Jim Garman of Putnam; two
sisters: Wanda Hanks and husband Delbert of Putnam and Bonnie
Allison and husband Ed of Wichita, KS; she is also survived by
several aunts, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew.
The
funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Taloga
School Auditorium with Pastor Dennis Adair, officiating.
Interment followed in the Prairie Bell Cemetery west of Putnam
directed by the Redinger Funeral Home in Seiling.
