RAYMOND
JUNIOR BRANSTETTER, son of Raymond Earl and Ada Virginia (Woods)
Branstetter, was born September 16, 1921 at Arnett, Oklahoma.
He departed this life on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Cushing
Regional Hospital, Cushing, Oklahoma. He was 88 years of age.
His
early years were spent in Ellis County and later the family moved to
Major County and settled in the Chester community. Junior
attended Seiling High School where he graduated with the class of
1940. He was united in marriage to Lucille Virginia Louthan,
January 1, 1942 at Taloga. They made their home in Chester
where they raised their two sons: Gary and Ronald. Junior
entered the United States Army in November 1942. He served his
country during World War II in the 42nd Rainbow Division
and 222nd Infantry Anti-Tank Division in the European
Theater. He was stationed in Dachau, Germany, Austria and
France. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned
to Chester where they owned and operated Branstetter’s Store in
Chester for many years. Junior also farmed and ranched. He
loved his family and they all enjoyed numerous trips to Colorado for
summer vacation to fish and relax. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Lucille, January 10, 1985. He married Mildred Irene
Painton, May 2, 1987 at the Orion Baptist Church. They
continued to make their home in Chester. Mildred preceded him
in death September 12, 2002. Later, Junior moved to Cushing to
be near his oldest son and his family.
Junior
was a member of the Seiling Friends Church where he served on
numerous church boards and committees. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Major County
Cattlemen’s Association.
He
is survived by two sons: Gary Branstetter and wife Susann of
Cushing; Ron Branstetter and wife Anita of San Antonio, TX; three
step daughters: Dian Nichols and husband C. A. of Fairview, Elaine
Sander and husband Jim of Seiling and Janice Louthan and husband
Nolan of Weatherford; seven grandchildren, numerous great
grandchildren; step grandchildren and step great
grandchildren; one sister: Virginia Gaylord and one brother: Lyndie
Branstetter both of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by
several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Besides both his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and
one brother, Fred Branstetter.
The
funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010
at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Orville White,
officiating. Interment followed in the Brumfield Cemetery
at Seiling. Memorials can be made to the Chester Historical
Society or to the Brumfield Cemetery with the Redinger Funeral Home,
PO Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663 serving as custodian of the funds.
